Ex-Fox Host Greta Van Susteren Dumped By MSNBC After Just Six Months (VIDEO/TWEETS)

After only six months, ex-Fox presenter Greta Van Susteren was told on Thursday morning that her show “For the record” on MSNBC had been cancelled, making Wednesday night her final show. Van Susteren had been dismissed from Fox in a similar way after 14 years of service.

In both cases Van Susteren was not given the opportunity to say goodbye to her viewers. The reason given for this dismissal was ratings, her show simply was not receiving the numbers they were hoping for and MSNBC was afraid that these poor numbers were affecting other shows on the network, including Maddow.

Van Susteren was picked up by MSNBC not long after Fox let her go in January 2017, around the same time the network also snatched up another Fox anchor Megyn Kelly. Vanity Fair was first to break the news of Van Susteren’s show being dropped, they too remarked that hiring two anchors from rival conservative network Fox, right before Trump’s inauguration, had ‘raised eyebrows.’

The anchor has received a big reaction to the network’s decision on social media. She has responded to many people who are commenting on her dismissal from MSNBC. Twitter user Elise Young suggested that Van Susteren follow in disgraced Fox presenter Bill O’Reilly’s footsteps, by starting her own internet show:

Van Susteren’s reply saying she is not sure what she will do next, is probably the most honest reaction she could give.

This tweet from the now ex-anchor is also quite revealing:

She clearly believes that she was not polarizing or controversial enough to keep her job.

At a time where the term ‘fake news’ is being thrown around constantly, especially by the president himself, many of the networks are finding the ‘Trump era’ to be both challenging and profitable. Perhaps veering to the right is something MSNBC is now regretting.

Van Susteren’s six o’clock slot is to be replaced by Ari Melber starting next month.
