Trump Tells Press ‘You Can’t Come To My Party’ (VIDEO)

Not even a year into his term, President Donald Trump is already circling the billionaire wagons to fundraise for another campaign. After originally telling the media that they could cover Trump’s first re-election fundraiser in Washington on Wednesday, the White House abruptly reversed course, closing the event to the press. Deputy press secretary Sarah Huckabee Sanders broke the news in an email to reporters covering the White House:

“Unfortunately there was some confusion with the (Republican National Committee) and due to the logistical challenges bringing in the press at this late moment is not going to be possible.”

The White House had originally agreed to let a small group of reporters who share information with the larger White House press corps attend the event. And even those few reporters had to really pressure the White House to let them in. Just a few hours later, however, the administration completely reversed course and once again barred all press.

During Barack Obama’s tenure, anytime he raised money for his own campaign or for other Democrats, members of the media were often allowed to cover his remarks, although they often did not allow cameras. Both Presidents Obama and Bush did allow the media to cover their first re-election fundraisers, which happened a full two years after Trump is holding his.

Why so early? Trump supporters say that he’s trying to be serious and aggressive about re-election, but critics say it’s because of his incredibly low approval ratings. And what if you are a Republican and want to attend? Well, the average Trump voter likely won’t need to be a member of the press to be excluded from this event. It’s a top-dollar affair, with a $100,000 price tag for the host committee and a $35,000-per-person dinner.

You could probably guess that Trump isn’t going to use any old venue for the event, either. It will be held at the Trump International Hotel. The circus continues.
