In case you haven’t been paying attention, the water continues to boil beneath the Donald Trump presidential team. The latest bombshell involves President Trump’s son, Donald Jr., meeting with a Russian attorney during the 2016 campaign in order to receive incriminating information about Trump’s opponent, Democratic nominee Hillary Clinton. He also invited Trump’s son-in-law and top adviser Jared Kushner and then-campaign manager Paul Manafort to the meeting. President Trump has stated that he had no knowledge of the meeting, but an unearthed campaign speech seems to indicate that the President, believe it or not, may be lying.
The Palmer Report unearthed a campaign speech that Trump gave on June 7, 2016, just two weeks after clinching the Republican Presidential nomination. You can read Time magazine’s full transcript of the speech here, but the incriminating few sentences comes when Trump states:
“Designed to keep her corrupt dealings out of the public record, putting the security of the entire country at risk and a President in a corrupt system is totally protecting her – not right. I am going to give a major speech on probably Monday of next week and we’re going to be discussing all of the things that have taken place with the Clintons. I think you’re going to find it very informative and very, very interesting. I wonder if the press will want to attend, who knows.
Hillary Clinton turned the State Department into her private hedge fund – the Russians, the Saudis, the Chinese – all gave money to Bill and Hillary and got favorable treatment in return. It’s a sad day in America when foreign governments with deep pockets have more influence in our own country than our great citizens.”
Two days after this speech, on June 9, Don Jr. met with Natalia Veselnitskaya, the Russian lawyer promising dirt on the Clintons. The Monday speech that President Trump mentioned would have come on June 13, but it never occurred. This is, most likely, because the purpose for the meeting was a ruse to get Trump Jr. in the room, and he has stated that no useful information came from it.
Here’s a quick timeline:
- June 7 – Then-nominee Donald Trump, Sr. announces that, in a few days, he will give an “informative” and “very, very interesting” speech about shady dealings the Clintons have had.
- June 9 – His son, Donald Trump, Jr., has a secret meeting with a Kremlin-based attorney who promised to provide him information about shady dealings the Clintons have had.
- June 13 – The speech promised by Trump, Sr. never occurs.
Surely this is all fake news, right?
