Pence: No Need To Remove Confederate Statues; We Need ‘More Monuments’ (VIDEO)

Just when you thought the Trump administration had pandered about as much as they could to the far right lunatics who want to preserve statues and monuments to the American Confederacy (which LOST the Civil War), along comes Mike Pence to tell us that we actually need more monuments.

Pence paid a visit to his boss’ favorite show on Tuesday, Fox & Friends, and was asked about the debate over Confederate monuments. The Veep began by saying such decisions should be made locally, and then he managed to slip in a bid for more monuments:

“Obviously, I think (whether to remove the monuments) should always be a local decision. And with regard to the U.S. Capitol, should be state decisions. I’m someone who believes in more monuments, not less monuments. What we ought to do is remember our history.”

What?! Will Pence, Trump, and their white nationalist supporters only be happy when we have a statue to a Confederate traitor on every corner? Or would they prefer we start flying the Confederate flag next to the American flag all over the country?

Finally (and surprisingly) Pence said we should also honor civil rights leaders and others who have worked in the cause of equality and freedom for all Americans:

“But we ought to celebrate the progress we have made since that history. I can’t help but think that rather than tearing down monuments, as some are want to do, rather than tearing down monuments that have graced our cities for years, we ought to be building more monuments.

“We ought to be celebrating the men and women who have helped our nation move towards a more perfect union and tell the whole story of America.”

There’s the dichotomy: If we’re going to celebrate those who helped make this “a more perfect union,” why in the hell do we need to build monuments to men who wanted to preserve slavery and tried to overthrow the government?
