RESURFACED FOOTAGE: Roy Moore Saying Newtown Happened Because U.S. Forgot God’s Law

Roy Moore, who recently won the Alabama Republican primary to fill the vacated Senate seat of Attorney General Jeff Sessions, is about as right wing as they come. He is staunchly Republican, has spouted anti-gay and anti-Islamic views, and was a leading voice in the racist “Birther” crusade against former President Barack Obama.

Recently uncovered comments Moore made about the Sandy Hook Elementary shooting, in which Adam Lanza took the lives of several elementary school students and members of the faculty, may be his worst yet.

CNN reporter Andrew Kaczynski discovered the old footage and posted it on his Twitter account, and CNN also aired it on Wednesday. In it, Moore discusses the reason he believes the Newtown, Connecticut shooting occurred while speaking with the congregation at the First Baptist Church of Guin:

In case the video will not load, here are Roy Moore’s comments:

You wonder why we’re having problems? Newtown, Connecticut? All across our country with killing, stealing, committing adultery? Because we’ve forgotten the law of God.”

Moore seems to be saying that, Adam Lanza’s shooting spree happened as a direct result of our country moving away from “the law of God.”

This should come as no surprise. Moore has proven time and time again that he is a right wing theocrat with some absolutely terrifying views of how the country should work. He was too out there for the GOP establishment to support, a fact that reportedly drove President Donald Trump into a fury because he had backed a losing candidate.

It seems unlikely that it will make a difference, given that Moore is running for a deep red Alabama Senate seat, but the DNC needs to do everything they can to support Democratic candidate Doug Jones. He is the last roadblock to Moore gaining that Senate seat.
