Has Michael Flynn Flipped On Trump To Save His Son From Prison?

Though he’s been out of the spotlight for the past couple of months, former National Security Adviser Michael Flynn has reportedly been eager to cooperate with Special Counsel Robert Mueller in exchange for immunity from prosecution. And now Flynn may be even more willing to tell what he knows in order to save his son from decades in prison.

A new report from CNN reveals that Flynn and his wife, Lori, are both deeply worried that their son, Michael Jr., could have major legal exposure from business deals he made on behalf of his father:

“Interviews conducted by special counsel investigators have included questions about the business dealings of Flynn and his son such as their firm’s reporting of income from work overseas, two witnesses interviewed by the team told CNN. The Foreign Agents Registration Act (FARA) requires people acting as agents of foreign entities to publicly disclose their relationship with foreign countries or businesses and financial compensation for such work.”

The younger Flynn served as his father’s chief of staff and top aide. He was also active in work at the consulting and lobbying firm founded by the elder Flynn. He joined his father on numerous overseas trips, including one to Moscow in December of 2015. During that trip, Flynn Sr. dined with Russian president Vladimir Putin.

Flynn Jr. seemed to be taunting the special counsel and his investigative team with a tweet he sent out on Sunday:

CNN also notes that the Flynns are the subject of multiple investigations:

“Flynn’s troubles extend to Congress, where his activities have attracted the attention of the House oversight committee. The panel’s top Republican and Democrat made a stunning announcement in April after their own inquiry: Flynn likely broke federal law by taking a paid speaking engagement in Russia without US government approval, and he hid the payments from FBI investigators reviewing the security clearance he is afforded as a retired lieutenant general.

“Flynn’s business dealings have been the subject of federal investigation since November 2016, prior to Mueller’s appointment in May. Flynn is also under legal scrutiny by Mueller’s team for undisclosed lobbying that he did during the presidential campaign on behalf of the Turkish government, according to sources familiar with the matter.”

If indeed Flynn is willing to cooperate with Mueller, he could provide extensive information on what took place both during the campaign as well as the transition. It has long been believed that Flynn is one of the key figures in the Russia scandal.
