Representative Tammy Duckworth (D-Ill.) announced Wednesday that she is returning 8.4 percent of her salary in a symbolic show of support for the federal employees in her district who are being?furloughed. She will continue to return this portion of her salary to the Treasury Department until Congress reaches a solution on the national deficit and budget. This really needs to happen across the board in Congress. Yes, I know it’s symbolic to THEM, but if they give their 5 percent to charity as Chuck Hagel is doing, that is NOT symbolic to the people who are recipients. I deeply resent the attitudes of people like Nancy Pelosi who said this:
“I don’t think we should do it; I think we should respect the work we do,” Pelosi told reporters in February. “I think it’s necessary for us to have the dignity of the job that we have rewarded.”
Really???? She really believes that? Disgust. Tammy Duckworth is an American hero. May she never change.
