UN Warns Of Ecological Crisis (VIDEO)

The UN’s Environmental Program has released some startling news about the state of this planet’s biodiversity. Mass extinctions of plant and animal life all over the world have lead us to the worst devastation of our ecosystems since the dinosaur’s disappearance.

The UN Convention on Biological Diversity’s Secretary General Ahmed Djoghlaf, warns of large scale environmental destruction leading to further economic plight all over the world. This ecological crisis has reached an emergency status that is being warned as the possible downfall of economic and ecological systems all over the world. Djoglaf stated:

No country has met its target to protect nature. We are losing biodiversity at an unprecedented rate. If current levels (of destruction) go on, we will reach a tipping point very soon. The future of the planet now depends on governments taking action in the next few years.

The interest in taking action is very high and has been for many years, however, only 16 of the meager 140 plans submitted since 1993 have been revised, showing little sense of urgency across the globe. Large scale population increases, industrial growth, and constant upgraded construction destroy nearly 200 species of plant, insect, and animals every day. Constant cuts in environmental spending are expected to magnify these numbers, an effect of economic trouble that cannot be sustained. It is a chain reaction, economic cuts cause ecological devastation and ultimately causing a financial crisis all over the world.

Modern society is a world filled with cable television, video games and couch potatoes. This generation’s connection with nature and nontechnological entertainment has caused this and future citizens of this planet to lose connection with our natural environment. This is a dangerous disconnection, making the urgency of this situation seem less vital then proposed. The UN is urging government leaders all over the world to take action immediately and restore our ecosystems before they begin to collapse.
