At least?six people have been killed and an unknown amount are seriously injured from a shooting that broke out in the Washington Navy Yard this morning. The possible second shooter is still at large, and is believed to be still in one of the Navy Yard buildings. The first suspect was?a Naval Official in his 50’s who reportedly recently received a change in job status.

All buildings in and around the Navy Yard are on lock down and employees of these buildings are taking cover inside their offices. Navy spokesperson, Ed Ziegler, in a statement to the press, said??All we know at this point and time is there is a shooter at the Washington Navy Yard. Navy District Washington and DC Metropolitan Police responded. We have a shelter in place for the base.?
Family and friends are constantly updating their Facebook pages but little is known even from the inside. One Washington resident who is in building E, right outside of the gates of the Navy Yard told Liberal America that??We have no clue what is happening. We are taking shelter and watching the updates on the news like everyone else.?
Another Navy spokesperson reports that this is being viewed as an attack due to the recognition of a second gunman, and possibly even a third. CBS reporters suggest an investigation on a possible terrorist background to this incident due to Al Qaeda threats issued against the United States just last week.
Again, however, there is no official word on whether there is any connection to recent terrorist threats. Stay tuned to Liberal America for updating information on this event.
UPDATE – 3:40PMEST 9/16/2013:?As this devastating event continues to unfold, more information has been brought forward.The DC Metropolitan Police Department has sent out a message, on twitter, that the white male in khaki’s was identified and is no longer a person of interest. CNN,?also reports, that the first shooter, killed at the scene, has positively been identified as 34 year old Aaron Alexis of Texas. A press release is set to occur in about 20 minutes. UPDATE – 2:20PMEST 9/16/2013: The latest update on this unfolding event came just moments ago from the Police Chief of the DC Metropolitan Police Department. The chief announced that the death toll is now at a confirmed 12 people dead with many more injured. The community is still?on lock down. The chief reports they are still searching for the, possible, 2 other shooters. These shooter are described as one white male 40-50 years of age, in a khaki military style uniform with some sort of beret. The second shooter is described as a black male also between the age of 40 and 50 years old, 5ft 10 inches tall, 180 pounds with gray sideburns, wearing a olive military style uniform. The investigation has been turned over to the FBI, but another press release will be held in approximately 2 hours. Stay tuned.
UPDATE – 1PMEST?9/16/2013: ?A?representative from the DC Metropolitan Police Department has briefed the press. The representative described the two other possible shooters as one white male and one African-American male wearing military style uniforms. The representative stressed that the two uniforms were different and were not yet certified as United States military uniforms. The facility continues to be on lock down and the suspects are still at large.
