You just have to love Rick Santorum, the former Senator out of Pennsylvania. When he isn’t claiming that Satan is “systemically destroying America” by controlling Protestantism and American universities, he’s claiming Satan runs other things. Other things like the film industry.

Said Mr. Santorum;

This is a tough business, this is something that we’re stepping out and the Devil for a long, long time has had this, these screens, for his playground and he isn’t going to give it up easily.

What I like most about that statement is the ending. It’s as if Santorum had some kind of Facebook flame war with Satan wherein he claimed that he won’t give up the movie theater, because that’s where the cool kids hang out and Santorum’s not a cool kid, darn it!

Now this little tidbit from Santorum came out during his appearance on the Trinity Broadcasting Network to promote his film “The Christmas Candle” starring…well…nobody in particular. The film is produced by EchoLight Studios, for which Santorum is CEO.

It should probably be mentioned that EchoLight is currently undergoing a bit of a crisis – a “civil war“, if you will.

You see, shortly after Santorum’s incredibly entertaining attempt at becoming U.S. President in 2012, before endorsing vicious rival Mitt Romney, EchoLight hired him to be Chief Executive Officer of their – to that point – largely ignored Christian film studio. And while he did bring some much needed attention to the “little Christian camp that couldn’t,” it wasn’t without a price.

A lawsuit filed in late September pits Rick Santorum and EchoLight against former executives Christopher Morrow and Bobby Downes. Morrow, the former “chief global strategist,” was let go after refusing to divulge financial information about $1 million project “Hoovey” while Downes, the former EchoLight President, found himself unemployed after having choice words in regard to “one of EchoLight’s principals”.

We can all agree that this “principal” was most likely Santorum himself seeing as it was he who fired both Morrow and Downes. Throw in the two former executives waging a “campaign of sabotage” on EchoLight leading to two major business partners breaking ties with the studio and you have one juicy story.

The one true secret to this story? Rick Santorum is a genius.

The former PA Senator is killing two birds with one stone with this whole “Satanic Hollywood” claim. He’s furthering his own personal fundamentalist Christian-based agenda to keep the Tea Party firmly in his corner in case he feels the need to run for office once again while at the same time using those folks’ Christian faith to promote his movie studio’s undoubtedly mediocre film. G-E-N-I-U-S – Genius!
