Women Left To Die In Jesus’s Name — Amen

In the last few years, we have heard more and more about abortion. In addition to the abortion propaganda, we have heard how abortion should once again be illegal because of the hordes of sex crazed women will use it as a birth control method. We have also heard how a fetus is a viable life form upon conception and that the mother has a duty to carry the fetus to term- even if it is detrimental to her health or even in cases of incest or rape.

But what we haven’t heard is how hard it is for the women who do choose abortions, mentally, emotionally, or physically, and we have not heard how it affects them in the long run; other than the right wing media hype that is so often in the news.? We haven’t heard the mental battle that a woman goes through in her mind upon even considering this decision and we have not heard the emotional battle behind her choice.

First, there are two things about me that need to be known before I write this further. I am a rape and incest survivor. What that means is that I was raped by a close family member, that I have overcome the battle, and am moving forward with my life. The next thing that needs to be known, I am a mother. I gave birth at a very young age from the rape that happened and it has done extensive damage to my body.

You may or may not have heard, but there was a little girl that was raped by her uncle in Kansas and a doctor gave her an abortion, rather than forcing her to give birth to a child from rape. The doctor that performed the abortion for this little girl and for other girls has since had her license to practice medicine revoked.

In Chile, an eleven year old little girl was unable to have an abortion because of Jesus. She was raped by her stepfather, repeatedly, and, because of her young age, both her life and the fetus’s life are in danger.

In Ireland, a woman was denied a medically necessary abortion to save her life, even though her fetus was already dead inside of the womb. Because the fetus’s body most likely began to decompose after its death, she became septic, received poor care on top of being denied the abortion, and then developed blood poisoning. That is what killed her, and do you know how painful and torturous it is to experience blood poisoning and to die from it?! My father died from it and I watched, helplessly. But that is another story.

The list is endless but the key theme to all of this is that this Irish woman, nor these little girls, were shown mercy, kindness, or compassion. They were treated as incubators and nothing more. There are millions of other stories out there that we are unaware of in our society, and it is all done for the sanctity of the life of the fetus, of the zygote.

But, the question is, what about the sanctity of their lives? What about the pain that they experienced, the horrors, and the torment? What about their battles?

To say that Jesus would stand for this and then condemn them is wrong. Most women do not make the decision to have an abortion lightly and it is not done for purely selfish reasons, in many cases. Some women are even pressured into it by their boyfriends or the man that they are a mistress to.

This is not a black and white issue, but one full of gray areas. And it is not up to our society to claim Christian values when our poor is not even taken care of, and children are starving and abused! It is not up to our society to speak for our God when there is a Christian majority, but not everyone is a Christian, or even religious.

Women have been left to die in Jesus’s name because they were denied an abortion that was needed. Children who have been raped have been denied abortions in Jesus’s name. Do you know the medical problems that result, and the high risk of maternal and fetal death in the case of a child being made to give birth? A girl’s body is not fully matured until eighteen years of age, which means we are not physically able to handle giving a child without high risk involved.

With women and girls who are considering abortions or who have sought an abortion, they do not need to hear that God hates them or that they are murderers. They need to be shown compassion and love. They need to be shown mercy and kindness. They do not need to be stoned, because, I dare you, Christians, to cast the first stone if you yourself have not sinned. Treat others as you want to be treated or as you would want your daughter treated in that instance.

This claiming legislation in the name of God is wrong and will have dire consequences. Little girls and women are suffering for it, and more will suffer and even die. Do you seriously want that much blood on your hands?
