Well, folks, we have had an eventful year since the election of Pope Francis to the papal office of the Catholic Church. From comments on atheists going to heaven that do good works, to sneaking out at night to break bread with the sick and homeless, he has left many at the PR office of the Catholic Church pulling their hair out. Since we are nearing the end of the year, we are going to have a compilation of six of the many things that Pope Francis has done to impress us and win our hearts this year- and the havoc that was wreaked because this man is actually walking the walk and practicing what he preaches. (Which is AWESOME!)
Six Things that Pope Francis Has Impressed Us With In 2013
- Pope Francis says that each person must choose to follow good and fight evil as he (the person) perceives them and that efforts to convert people to Christianity is nonsense.? ?Can you say WOW? This is a radical teaching, especially from a Pope and it seems to be an effort to distance himself from the powers that be in the Catholic Church. He is openly embracing all people with just this statement. It is phenomenal that he has done so. However, the Catholic Church panicked and had to do a quick PR mop-up, assuring the masses that you still have to accept Jesus Christ as your Savior.
- Pope Francis openly and lovingly embraces man with boils.? Pope Francis was caught on camera stopping to lay his hands on a man to pray for him and then he embraced him while the man buried his face against Pope Francis’s chest. It was truly a beautiful moment and no words can describe it beyond that, in my book.
- Pope Francis shuns luxurious papal apartment. Yep. That’s right. He refused to stay in the papal palace and instead stays in a simple dwelling on the grounds.
- Pope Francis refuses to sit on the traditional papal throne, have the stole, red shoes, priceless crucifix, and red carpet. He, instead,? sits on a simple, but elegant cushioned chair that is, nonetheless, nothing like the chair/throne of his predecessors.
- Pope Francis is giving a speech and an adorable little boy comes up on the stage with him. What does the Pope do when the little boy hugs his leg? Smiles and embraces him. He does not shoo him off of the stage? or get distracted, but suffers the little children- like Jesus called his disciples to do.? The cardinals tried to get the little boy to go back to his parents, and he refused to do so. And Pope Francis did not seem to mind in the least.
- And, finally, Pope Francis condemns capitalism. This got everyone in such an uproar that Rush Limbaugh had to call the Pope A Marxist. However, for Christians, Pope Francis is right and is echoing the sentiment in the Bible; the love of money is the root of all evil.
I am anxious to see what the new year will bring this year with Pope Francis and how he will cause even more of an uproar with the radical teachings and things that he is doing. I am absolutely ecstatic over the work he has done and will continue to do for the world and I hope that he can make a difference, as I hope that we all can.
