There has been quite a bit of controversy regarding certain movies that have come out lately. The primary one has been “Noah,” starring Russell Crowe. Some Christians have felt that the director, Darren Aronfosky, has failed to tell the story fully, while other Christians feel that it is wonderful and are encouraging other Christians to go see it.

More than that, though, we often hear about how Hollywood constantly portrays sex, violence, and other forms of wickedness. Many Christians say that this also encourages wickedness in the lives of believers and will lead people astray.

But there is one thing to consider -?how rife the Bible is with sordid stories of sex, violence, incest, blood, and all of the things that Hollywood does put within her movies.?Here are two examples.

The drama that tells the epic of Abraham.

This is the story that foreshadows the clash of cultures and religions that rages for millenia. It is a story that is full of deception, jealousy, attempted sacrifice of one’s son, another son being cast out to appease a jealous wife, and many other things.

The story begins with Abraham claiming grazing lands to share with his brother, Lot. However, a drought drives them down into the Nile Valley. There, Abraham and his wife, Sarai, enter Egypt. However, Sarai, who is stunningly beautiful, suggests that they act as brother and sister instead of husband and wife.

With this happening, the pharaoh sees her and desires her greatly; so, he takes her into his harem. This displeases YHWH, and YHWH then unleashes plagues against the Egyptians until the truth is revealed. To curry favor and end his problems quickly, the pharaoh heaps riches upon Abraham and Sarai, and then sends them on their way.

Several years later, Abraham and Sarai have not conceived children and she is past child bearing age. So, Sarai gives Abraham a concubine that was her maidservant. Abraham beds Hagar and she conceives a son with him, called Ishmael. Well, shortly after, Sarai is bedded by Abraham and she conceives a son as well, called Isaac. Sarai then becomes jealous, and, to appease her, Abraham sends Hagar and Ishmael into the desert with no food or water. The only reason they survived was because an angel of the Lord came to them and helped them.

The corrupt tale of Soddom and Gomorrah.

A town full of rich, well fed people turning their backs on the poor, the alien among them, while sitting in comfort and splendor. This story is tied in with Lot’s. At this time, Lot had moved to the city of Soddom and was living there with his family. He saw the sinful nature of the people but remained a Godly man.

Abraham caught wind from angels that the Lord was planning on destroying Soddom and Gomorrah and pleaded with the Lord, knowing Lot and his family were there and that they were righteous. The Lord agreed to spare the city as long as they were there. That night, messengers of God came to Lot and his family.

Upon receiving the warning, he made his family start packing to leave. In the meantime, word had spread through the town of two beautiful men and the men of the town came to Lot’s home, demanding he turn over the strangers so that they could have their way with them; consent or not. Lot refused and even offered his daughters in their place.

As the morning dawned, fire rained down from heaven, destroying the town. Lot and his family were told to go forth and to not look back- well, his wife looked back and became a pillar of salt. He and his daughters escaped, but his wife had to be left behind.

These are just two stories of Biblical drams that would make great Hollywood Blockbusters.

There are many many more stories such as these that would make Hollywood blockbusters. Read the Bible for yourself and see. ?
