As I mentioned on Sunday, Donald Sterling, owner of the NBA’s Los Angeles Clippers, is under fire for allegedly telling his mistress that he doesn’t like black people coming to Clippers games–even though 10 of the 12 players on his roster are black. Well, at least one fan of the Clippers’ first-round opponent in the NBA Playoffs, the Golden State Warriors, didn’t get the memo. Just before Sunday’s game tipped off, Warriors fan Jeremy Butler decided to troll Sterling (who didn’t attend the game) by tweeting this picture he took with a friend he brought to Oracle Arena:
Not surprisingly, this photo has gone viral, with virtually every major outlet reporting on it.
It remains to be seen whether any Warriors or Clippers fans follow Butler’s lead at tonight’s game in Los Angeles, though hopefully a lot of them do so. It would speak almost as loudly as his players conducting their pregame shootaround wearing inside-out shooting shirts–after dumping their warmup shirts at center court. However, Warriors coach Mark Jackson is calling for fans of both teams to stay home. That may change, though–NBA.com reports that commissioner Adam Silver will give an update on the investigation at 2 pm Eastern in New York City.
