A couple from King’s Lynn, Norfolk, have been arrested for allowing their 11 year-old son’s weight to balloon to 210 pounds.

A middle-aged couple in the United Kingdom has been arrested for “cruelty and neglect” of their obese child.

The police investigation has shown that the intervention for the child only happened because the other attempts to help the child had been unsuccessful.

The parents of this overweight child told The Sun, an English blog and newspaper, that they had encouraged their son to participate in sports by buying him toy guns to play with at home. The child also played a lot of the Nintendo Wii, which allows people to use physical movements to control the games.?The couple had signed up to a voluntary plan to tackle the boy’s weight when they were threatened with legal action earlier this year, but it brought no improvement.

Teachers at the child’s school had been concerned about the boy’s weight. But, after seeing no action done, the teachers felt it was time to contact officials and police.

The mother (who is not very skinny herself) has said that the family has been trying their absolute best to help the child get healthier.?From? The?Guardian:

“The idea they could take away my son scares me so much. I’m nothing without my kids. His weight isn’t that much of a big deal???it’s genetics ? you can be genetically fat.”

Now here comes the big question. America has the highest obesity of any?country in the developed world. In recent years, it has only been increasing with children and infants. What do you think? Do you think this is a clever way to solve the problem of obesity in children, or anyone for that matter? Leave your opinion in the comments section! We here at Liberal America enjoy knowing our viewers’ opinions.
