Last month, Sgt. Gary Carter became a viral sensation on Facebook thanks to his kind heart. Now, he is in the news again. Once again it’s?for his kindness.

If you missed the viral shares on Facebook last month, Carter was called to a complaint about an aggressive pit bull in an Arlington, Texas neighborhood. Despite being told the dog was vicious and calling for backup, he realized quickly the dog was actually friendly. He gave him a protein bar, and the dog’s owner was located.

So it comes as no surprise that KDFW is reporting that Sgt. Carter is again helping the same lost pit bull.

Apparently, the pit bull’s owner returned him to the animal shelter recently for getting out of his home. According to KDFW, he was ?scheduled to be euthanized later this week.?

However, Sgt. Carter came to the pit’s rescue yet again.

KDFW:

?He officially adopted Jeffrey on Thursday and changed his name to Chance. He believes he can give him a second chance on life.?

Sgt. Carter commented:

?This dog keeps crossing my path so it must be meant to be? He’s a good dog.?

The Arlington Police Department has a training program to help officers prevent ?profiling? dogs that are usually considered dangerous such as pit bulls.

Chief Will Johnson:

?This is exactly the type of compassion we love to see our employees exhibit and credit their good judgment and our significant investment that our organization has made in providing training to officers on how to deal with dogs.?

After hearing about the adoption, K9 International has offered free obedience training for Chance.

After writing about a lab being mistaken for a pit bull and being killed by a trigger-happy officer, this was absolutely refreshing! Too many times pit bulls are considered vicious. It’s great that an officer will take the time to investigate rather than reach for his gun. Chance is getting a very rare second chance for his life. Shelters are overrun with pits. They are the least desirable breed due to their negative image. Not to mention, they are very high energy. Someone who does sign on may find out very shortly they are a handful and take them back to the shelter. The training from K9 International will further guarantee that Chance will be a good dog and promote?a positive image for the pit bull breed! Thank you so much Sgt. Carter for being so kind!
