It seems the “Sons of Anarchy” and its sex montage that opened the show’s recent episode has drawn the attention of the Parents Television Council.
In a blog piece that the PTC likes to call ?Worst Cable TV Show of the Week,? the PTC’s Editor and Senior Writer Christopher Gildemeister seems to take issue with the montage, as well as cable television in general.
While ranting about the ?nothing less than pornographic? opening scene, he goes on to describe, in quite vivid detail, the show’s use of violence. Which at this point, for everyone that knows the show, is not surprising. Hopefully, no children will be exposed to his article on this family friendly site. That would just be downright irresponsible.
The fun doesn’t stop there, though. He also goes on to scold cable television for the choice of time slot that the episode aired by saying:
?It’s also worth noting that the sex scene aired at 9:00 p.m. in the Central and Mountain tome zones. It’s not beyond the realm of possibility that some channel-surfing children stumbled upon this — particularly as, immediately before Sons of Anarchy, FX was showing the movie The Amazing Spiderman. (Of course, those in the entertainment industry prefer to shriek, ‘Parents, do your jobs!’ rather than taking even the slightest responsibility for what they’re choosing to push into every home in America.)?
Sorry to disappoint you, Mr. Gildemeister, it’s not just the entertainment industry that shrieks, ?Do your job!? It’s also common sense parents that enjoy shows like the “Sons of Anarchy.” It’s also these parents that understand that all cable technology comes with a standard parental control option.
So if one is not careful, maybe little Johnny could ?stumble? across a scene like this. Also, if a child loves “The Amazing Spiderman” so much, buy them the DVD. There are just too many options for protecting a child against material that a parent might deem inappropriate these days.
In the end, though, it’s the hysteria that is whipped up by the likes of the Parents Television Council that keeps issues like these alive. With that said, I will let Mr. Gildemeister have the last word:
?Clearly, Cable Choice is a solution whose time has come. HBO and CBS have already recognized that fact. How long will every family in America be held hostage by the greedy, corrupt entertainment cartel? For forcing every American family to underwrite pornography and graphic violence, FX’s “Sons of Anarchy” is the Worst Cable TV Show of the Week.?
