Ted Cruz has constantly been harping on President Obama for his lack of Constitutional understanding and execution. His continual character assassinations and blows against the chief executive of the United States have always been veiled under the guise of “protecting the Constitution.” This, of course, should come as no surprise to many as a desperate and thinly concealed ploy to just undermine a Democrat while pursuing a similar agenda.
After all, he supports his father’s position of stripping away the Separation of Church and State, even though it is guaranteed by the 1st Amendment. He’s a theocrat of the highest order, and does nothing in an attempt to hide it. He rails against Sharia Law, but fully supports Biblical Law. He is a member of a growing movement of radical Christians, who seek to overthrow the US Government by infiltrating all levels of government (to include the military), known as Dominionism. I know all about Dominionist theology, having been one myself – oh, so long ago. You can read the link, but the essential gist of the belief system is that Christ will not return until Christians take control over all the lands and governments, instilling biblical law to fulfill the prophecy of the return of Christ.
While the entirety of that ideological perspective is scary, it is even more so considering he is a standing US Senator. It is a blatantly unconstitutional stance for anyone in civil service to take and yet it guides his decisions and law-making agenda.
Cruz has proposed a new bill, the Expatriate Terrorist Act (Senate Bill 247), which strips away the rights of any American citizen who runs off to join or in support of any terrorist organization. It would immediately strip the citizenship of anyone in support of an organization that the United States deems a “terrorist organization.”
There is a problem here, however…
This is in violation of the US Constitution, which Cruz has often referred to himself as a fan and follower of. His bill, which was originally written by the ineffable jingoistic idiot Michelle Bachmann (who also happens to be a Dominionist) violates these particular Amendments:
Amendment V:
No person shall be held to answer for a capital, or otherwise infamous crime, unless on a presentment or indictment of a Grand Jury, except in cases arising in the land or naval forces, or in the Militia, when in actual service in time of War or public danger;
Amendment VI:
In all criminal prosecutions, the accused shall enjoy the right to a speedy and public trial, by an impartial jury of the State and district wherein the crime shall have been committed, which district shall have been previously ascertained by law, and to be informed of the nature and cause of the accusation; to be confronted with the witnesses against him; to have compulsory process for obtaining witnesses in his favor, and to have the Assistance of Counsel for his defense.
Of course this all comes on the heels of Ted Cruz opposing and being completely appalled by the fact that President Obama did just the same when he ordered a drone strike against Anwar Al-Awlaki in 2013. Speaking in reference to the Obama administration, Cruz stated:
I think they view the Constitution as, essentially, a pesky obstruction to carrying out their agenda.
While I, personally, agree with that statement in the case of Al-Awlaki, I think it is a matter of due process that should be applied across the board to any and all Americans, regardless of the crime they committed. Cruz, apparently now supports murdering American citizens overseas who have become disillusioned about the American imperialism and occupation of foreign nations. While joining a terror group is certainly reprehensible and almost in no way justifiable, it has always been the ideal that “we are better than that” (as in executing people without giving them the chance to speak on their behalf).
Of course, I felt the same about torture and rape of detainees, but I was in the minority viewpoint of Americans on that as well. Only 41% of Americans nationwide felt outraged by the torture and rape of foreign Prisoners of War – and let’s be honest, they aren’t detainees – they ARE prisoners of war. We gave them this designation as “detainees” while overseas so we could hold them for 14 days without charge, and could conduct further interrogation on them. I know. I was there on the ground in the desert.
Ted Cruz is a sham. He is a scam artist and a great con, but it’s not hard to con idiots who make up the majority of his base support structure. Terror has become another term that is flippantly thrown about to shame anyone who speaks out against any agenda set forth by the neocon war hawks. Sometimes, we are wrong, however. There was a time when Nelson Mandela was on a terrorist watch list and considered an enemy of the United States….
