Country or rock and roll? What’s your favorite? To Senator Ted Cruz, it seems to be the former, and he has shared his reasons why.

Tuesday morning, earlier this week, the Texas Senator shared with his hosts at CBS This Morning that he grew up listening to classic rock and roll, but his taste in music changed after 9/11 – specifically to country music.

“I actually intellectually find this very curious, but on 9/11, I didn’t like how rock music responded… And country music, collectively, the way they responded, it resonated with me.”

Cruz’s comments came during a lightning round of interviews the morning after he announced his candidacy for president in 2016.

The Senator did not mention what specific country music resonated with him, and on the other side, which rock group didn’t seem to respond well to him about the events.

“I had an emotional reaction that said ‘These are my people’… So ever since 2001, I listen to country music.”
