Boston Red Sox Keep Sliding – But Not Into The Bases

Only one season removed from a miracle world series in 2013 the Boston Red Sox have found themselves in a familar place yet again… the bottom.

The Sox have dropped their last 7 of 8 and run production is about as likely as San Diego Padres winning the World Series.

If we look at the last 8 games, some lackluster performances?are in the back of our minds. The struggling Sox have been held at bay by being outscored 39-16 in their last 8 games. I know that we can point our fingers ?at the pitching staff for a string of 7, 7, 5, 5, and 8 runs-allowed performances, but only once in the last 8 games have they scored more than 3 runs.

So it’s time for a change 30 games into the season right? Well, that’s what the front office seems to think. The Sox traded away struggling reliever Edward Mujica for either cash considerations or a player to be named. Though I would have been happy with them leaving him at the bus station. The Sox also demoted pitcher Robbie Ross Jr. and Allen Craig.

The 30-year-old Craig might be best suited to go back to the NL where he belongs after posting a .130 batting average since his arrival in Boston last July. In exchange for Craig and Ross, the Boston Red Sox brought in?Jackie Bradley Jr. and Steven Wright. The former has finally been able to put the bat on the ball.

Just when you thought the moves were finished, the Sox hired former Indians pitching coach Carl Willis to take over for Juan Nieves and a staff that ranks 29th in ERA this season.

I hate to use the term?“going out of business”?when it comes to sports, but this year the Boston Red Sox tried to make it work without an ace and slew of average players. Now the going out of business sale of players is just?beginning for the Boston Red Sox.
