FINALLY — A Glenn Beck Slander Victim Will Likely Receive Settlement

It seems that right-wing pundits fall into three categories of lunacy.

First, there?are?the ones who do believe what they say and are just too stupid to know how offensive it is (Steve Doocey, Megyn Kelly, Elizabeth Hasselbeck).

Second, there are those who seek to say the most offensive things possible, although you have to wonder just?how much they honestly believe it?(Rush Limbaugh, Ann Coulter).

Finally, there are the real crazies, the conspiracy theorists who will stop at nothing to accuse the government of deceit and ill-intent, even when those theories are unfounded, hurt others, and terrifyingly encourage their truly crazy and paranoid viewers because they are just as crazy and paranoid. Glenn Beck falls squarely in that category, and one petitioner seeking damages against him in court may finally reach a settlement deal.

Abdul Rahman Ali Alharbi is suing Glenn Beck over claims in Beck’s radio show that Alharbi was the “money man” behind the Boston Marathon bombing, despite the fact that law enforcement cleared him of any wrongdoing. Night after night, Beck ranted away on his show, The Blaze, about a government conspiracy led by President Obama to cover up Alharbi’s participation in the bombing to placate?Saudi Arabia.

Beck’s lawyers have already attempted to get the defamation and slander lawsuit thrown out, but?U.S. District Court Judge Patti Saris rejected claims that Alharbi must, as a public figure, prove “malice” in Beck’s intentions against him. (Alharbi is only a public figure, mind you, because of Beck’s show).

According to the online legal dictionary definition, “unjust enrichment” is:

“A general equitable principle that no person should be allowed to profit at another’s expense without making restitution for the reasonable?value of any property, services, or other benefits that have been unfairly received and retained.”

Fox News?famously parted ways with Beck’s television show four years ago on their network as Beck’s claims grew wilder and Fox failed to rein him in. This comes on the heels of news that Rush Limbaugh is rapidly losing sponsors and viewership and may not have a show much longer.

The implications of adding the “unjust enrichment” as part of the settlement amount in lawsuits against outlets like Fox News, The Blaze, and Rush Limbaugh’s show are enormous. How many times have they ranted for days over conspiracies and wrongdoing by someone that they cannot prove and for which they profit enormously?

We may be seeing the end of those days, and I, for one, could not be happier to see them go.
