Two women from Chatsworth, Georgia, have been arrested after child welfare authorities found two special needs children, ages 8 and 11, imprisoned in cages at a home.

The mother of the two children, Stephanie Stone, was arrested and charged with cruelty to children, false imprisonment, and drug possession Another woman, Wanda Redfern, was charged with child cruelty and false imprisonment.

The 11-year-old boy was held inside of  two metal-frame twin beds placed on top of each other and secured with metal hinges and plastic zip ties, according to authorities, who described it as a “makeshift cage.”

The girl was imprisoned in a cage fashioned out of a daybed, with wooden rails, metal shelving and a wooden platform on top.

One investigator with the Georgia Bureau of Investigation (GBI) remarked that he had been in law enforcement for 30 years and never seen anything like what he found inside the house where the children were being held.

The children, who were placed in the custody of child protective services, were said to be in good health overall, and while authorities described them as disabled, they would not elaborate on what those disabilities are.

Stone and Redfern are behind held without bond.

Police also said that a third person may soon be charged in connection with the case.
