Is Donald Trump Already Making Excuses To Drop Presidential Run?

On “Meet The Press” this morning, Chuck Todd featured his interview with Donald Trump. While they discussed a number of topics, from the economy to Syria, and to Russia’s bombing of the Middle East, perhaps the thing most people will focus on is the fact that he might drop out of the race.

As we all know, Donald Trump is a bit of a narcissist. That self-serving big head of his may just be the reason he drops out of the race for the Republican presidential candidacy, though. As Chuck Todd asked Trump:

“You said something the other day that caught me off guard. You said you’re not a masochist, and if you start falling in the polls, you’ll go back to your business. What does that mean? Are you not in this for the long-haul?”

Donald Trump answered, in true Trump fashion, by saying:

“A lot of people have asked me that question. Number one, I’m not a masochist, and if I was dropping in the polls where I saw that I wasn’t going to win, why would I continue? And it’s funny, maybe it’s not like me, because it’s the power of positive thinking, and I’m a very positive person, I’m a positive thinker. But the truth is, I’m a realist. I’m doing great in the polls right now; I think you will say, I’m not saying anything. I’m leading everything. Everything. By a lot. Not only leading, by a lot…If I were doing poorly, if I saw myself going down, if you would stop calling me because you no longer have any interest in Trump because he has no chance, I’d go back to my business. I have no problem with that.”

Sooo, you’re saying there’s a chance you’ll drop out? Donald Trump seems to have made it pretty clear. If he is not leading in the polls, and no one wants to talk with him, he’ll go back to his business. Well, that sounds great. There is just one problem. Who is going to take his place? With Dr. Ben Carson just five points behind in the Iowa poll, that scenario doesn’t sound inviting either.

“Meet The Press” showed the Iowa match-up polls soon after airing the interview. The poll read like this:

Donald Trump – 24%

Ben Carson – 19%

Carly Fiorina – 8%

Jeb Bush – 7%

Ted Cruz – 6%

Marco Rubio – 6%

Bobby Jindal – 6%

Mike Huckabee – 5%

Rand Paul – 4%

Chris Christie – 4%

The New Hampshire match-up was slightly different. The top five in that state read like this:

Donald Trump – 21%

Carly Fiorina – 16%

Jeb Bush – 11%

Marco Rubio – 10%

Ben Carson – 10%

But hey, if we could just start with knocking Donald Trump out, it would be a nice start. Because we all know the kind of “change” he wants to make, and the type of person he is.

While the video is long by today’s attention span standards, the exchange featured here begins at 27:44, towards the end of the video.
