Georgia Law Enforcement Hand Out $100 Bills Instead Of Tickets

What a way to start the holidays! Law enforcement officers in Monroe County, Georgia recently received an anonymous donation of $5000. The only instruction given with the donation was to give out the money in $100 bills in place of tickets in the case of minor driving infractions.

So County Sheriff John Cary Basitt handed out 50 $100 bills and sent them on their rounds!

The donor himself had seen a similar project recently, and wanted to test out the concept in his local area. The goal was to decrease tensions between law enforcement and civilians amid the recent instances of police brutality across the country.

Officers were told to give the money to people who “looked like they could use it.” This included a woman with multiple child seats in the back of her car.

Several drivers began to cry, and even asked for a hug. One driving began cursing out the officer who pulled her over, which resulted in her not getting her $100.
