VIDEO: Jon Stewart Rescues Runaway Bull From Slaughterhouse

Comedian Jon Stewart, former host of the “Daily Show,” seems to crave the spotlight. He just can’t stay out of the headlines, even after his retirement from Comedy Central.

Stewart and his wife, author Tracey Stewart, were notified on Friday that an Angus bull had escaped from the truck that was taking him and fellow victims to a slaughterhouse in Queens, New York.  The bull, who seems to have been blessed with an incredible will to live, ran off of the truck, and onto the campus of nearby York College. Local NYPD officers surrounded the escapee and eventually subdued him with tranquilizer darts.

The bull was transported to the Animal Care Center in Brooklyn for assessment. At that point, Jon Stewart and his wife were contacted by a local animal welfare group called Farm Sanctuary. The Stewarts have been involved in animal welfare efforts in the past, and were known to the group.

The bull, who was named Frank Lee after famed Alcatraz escapee Frank Lee Morris, was eventually voluntarily released by the city, and was signed over to the Sanctuary. Lucky, lucky Frank! He will be headed off to Bufflehead Farm, an animal sanctuary that is owned and run by Jon Stewart and his wife, Tracey. After spending a relaxing weekend with the comedian and his family, along with several other refugee animals, Frank will be sent off for a medical “check up”.  The evaluation, at Cornell University Hospital for Animals will end in a procedure which will turn the feisty bull into a steer.

Yup. Frank is going to be “fixed”.

After his recovery, Frank will be sent off to Farm Sanctuary’s rescue facility in Watkins Glen, New York.   There he will presumably live out his life in bucolic joy on the 175 acre site. He will graze, enjoy the sunshine and the outdoors and no doubt spend time reflecting on his near-death experience.

The one thing that Frank will not be doing is dating any young cows.

But at least he can live out his days knowing that he was saved by Jon Stewart, a true American icon.
