This 9-Year-Old Is Making A Difference In The Lives Of Homeless Women

Khloe Thompson lives in Los Angeles. She’s a 9-year-old girl with a big heart. According to Upworthy, Thompson shared that she passed homeless people on her way to school every day. The energetic girl asked her mom what she could do to help them out.

Together they came up with an answer: Khloe’s Kare Bags. Each bag is a labor of love that Thompson sews with the help of her grandmother. Instead of plastic bags, Thompson’s creations are cut from cloth.

Khloe’s Kare Bags Help To Uplift Homeless Women

For those living on the streets, staples can be out of reach extravagances. Thompson includes toiletry items/staples that most people not on the streets take for granted. Thompson also throws in socks because they are a much-needed item. Socks remain at the top of the most wanted list for shelters, along with sanitary protection items for women. Having a bag made from love with basic grooming items helps to erase some of the stigma associated with being homeless.

Thompsons’ Kind Spirit Is Infectious

Sometimes Thompson receives bags from schoolmates who see how happy she is about her charity initiative. When asked how they responded when they found out about her efforts, Thompson was happy to explain,

“They thought I was, like, the class superstar.”

Thompson recently appeared on The Real to tell her story.

Los Angeles Homeless Rates Are Steadily Increasing

The Institute for the Study of Homelessness and Poverty at the Weingart Center, reports, women account for 33 percent to 50 percent of the homeless population in Los Angeles. The City of Angels has over 254,000 homeless people. The staggering numbers leave 82,000 people on the streets on any given night. Many of those displaced are youth and a good percentage identify as LGBT.

When asked how women respond to her gift Thompson says,

“The women hug me and offer big smiles and ‘thank yous.'”

These acts of kindness make Thompson a winner among her peers and adults in her community. Thank you Khloe, for being a shining example that we can all follow.
