No Gay Space Colonies On This RWNJ’s Watch! (VIDEO)

The base salary for a United States Congressman is $174,000. That all comes from federal taxes we pay yearly. Today, Louie Gohmert (R-TX) decided to take the money he earned working today and throw it right down the toilet.

Every so often the House of Representatives allows its members to make what are called “general speeches” on the House floor. This is really just a way to allow rank-and-file members to get their pet issues on the official congressional record.

Whether it be highway funds for their district or a social issue that is not getting as much national press, the members talk about any number of points. And Congressman Gohmert wants to make sure that the United States does not build any gay space colonies.

Yes, you read that right.

In one of the more bizarre speeches ever given on floor, Gohmert began by railing against trans people and gay marriage. He then decided to wander into science fiction territory. Gohmert said that in case of an apocalyptic event that made Earth uninhabitable, we should definitely build a huge spaceship to save the human race.

But no gays, though. Gohmert had this to say:

“You’re wanting to save humankind for posterity, basically a modern-day Noah, you have the opportunity to be a modern day Noah, you can preserve life… How many same sex couples would you take from the animal kingdom and from humans to put on the spacecraft to perpetuate humanity and the wildlife kingdom?”

None, in his opinion. Wait, he used his time on the floor for that? Yes. Yes he did.

Gohmert’s ramblings also mentioned possibly duplicating Matt Damon’s character’s actions from his recent film “The Martian,” while as realistically written as possible, I am guessing was not meant to be a blueprint for “how to survive if the planet blows up.”

Your tax dollars hard at work, America!

To top off the crazy, Gohmert cited Jonathan Cahn, a right-wing, end of times, fire and brimstone preacher, to claim that the end is near.

Did Gohmert actually have a point or was this just mindless rambling? The only logical connection to anything government related is that the Congressman appears to be against spending federal funds on NASA and other space technology type programs.

Maybe there was a more salient way to make that point, Louie. But instead, we got this little gem of a speech.

Way to go, Texas. You’ve got a real winner of a representative.
