Paul Ryan, the Republican Speaker of the House, just released a statement in a column in his hometown newspaper The Gazette, saying he will vote for Donald Trump.

Ryan has previously criticized Trump during the primary campaign, and no endorsement followed their highly anticipated meeting on May 12, as Ryan said it was too soon.

But now he states his trust in Trump, writing:

“Donald Trump and I have talked at great length about things such as the proper role of the executive and fundamental principles such as the protection of life. The list of potential Supreme Court nominees he released after our first meeting was very encouraging.”

By focusing on issues that unite Republicans, Ryan feels he can work together with Trump to heal the fissures developed through the primary:

“Through these conversations, I feel confident he would help us turn the ideas in this agenda into laws to help improve people’s lives. That’s why I’ll be voting for him this fall.”

According to The Gazette, a Ryan campaign spokesman says the column is an endorsement of Trump’s candidacy. Ryan wrote:

“The reality is, on the issues that make up our agenda, we have more common ground than disagreement.”

And of course, they are adamant not to support Hillary Clinton:

“A Clinton White House would mean four more years of liberal cronyism and a government more out for itself than the people it serves. Quite simply, she represents all that our agenda aims to fix.”

Together with Trump, Paul Ryan feels that the Republican vision can be a reality:

“It’s not just a choice of two people, but of two visions for America. And House Republicans are helping shape that Republican vision by offering a bold policy agenda, by offering a better way ahead.
Donald Trump can help us make it a reality.”

Ryan’s column can be read in full here.

As for Democrats, the Ryan-Trump pact and their new-found joint agenda to put their visions into reality is rather depressing.

With a Democratic victory we won’t have to see their visions become reality. All the more reason to remember “Vote Blue, No Matter Who.”
