Denis Leary Says Trump Is Trying To Exploit 9/11: ‘I Don’t Remember Seeing Him’ At Memorials

Perhaps the only person who tries to milk the tragedy of September 11, 2001 for political gain more than Donald Trump is former New York City Mayor Rudy Giuliani, who practically has a tattoo on his forehead that announces, “I WAS MAYOR ON 9/11! THAT WAS ME!” But Trump is a very close second, and has been heavily criticized for saying he saw video footage of Muslims celebrating in New Jersey when the World Trade Center collapsed. No video has been found by any news organization, and Trump has also failed to produce any.

Comedian Denis Leary, who was born in Massachusetts, is often considered to be a very New York kind of guy because he takes no crap from anyone and isn’t afraid to speak his mind. Leary has also donated millions of dollars through his Leary Firefighters Foundation and the Fund for New York’s Bravest to first responders. He’s also sick and tired of listening to Trump when he tries to turn the 9/11 to his advantage, saying:

“I think he’ll basically do anything to get the spotlight. Trump will take advantage of whatever the situation, the cause, or the event might be. Where was he before this? I’ve been downtown forever and been to a lot of 9/11 Memorial events—the 5th anniversary, the 10th anniversary, others—and I don’t remember seeing Donald Trump there once.”

Leary also correctly noted that Trump’s entire campaign is built around one central theme: Fear.

“It’s all built on fear, noise, bigotry, and finger-pointing. The guy loves to tweet.”

How very right Denis Leary is. Trump may try to claim that his slogan is, “Make America great again,” but the way he has attacked Hispanics, Muslims, and even the disabled, it would be much more appropriate if he changed that slogan to “Make America white again.”

Trump is a genuine threat to the long-term freedoms we cherish in this country, and we must all work together to make sure he is soundly defeated in November.
