A female delegate from Illinois who supported Donald Trump has been asked to pack her bags and head back to the Land of Lincoln after making an offensive posting on social media.
Lori Gayne, a delegate from the Fifth Congressional District, posted a photo of law enforcement officers standing on the roof of the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame and Museum, along with this caption:
“Our brave snipers just waiting for some N—- to try something. Love them.”
Gayne made the posting using a different name, but later admitted that she was responsible for it.
Tim Schneider, the Illinois GOP chairman, said Gayne’s convention credentials were revoked for the racist comments, and he added:
“The Illinois Republican Party has zero tolerance for racism of any kind and threats of violence against anyone.”
For her part, Gayne offered her “deepest apology” for the offensive post and also said:
“The statements do not reflect my character or feelings toward minorities. As a Jewish woman, I know that racism of any kind is unjustifiable and hurtful, even when it’s not intended. I also know that violence is never the answer to political disagreements.”
One wonders, however, about the sincerity of the apology when you consider that Gayne is a former Internet talk show and often goes by the name “whitepride” on social media platforms.
Gayne also told the Chicago Tribune in May of this year:
With all the racism going on today, I’m very proud to be white. Just like black people are proud to be black and now, as white people, whenever we say something critical we’re punished as if we’re racists. I’m tired of it. I’m very proud.
“I’m so angry I don’t even feel like I live in America. You can call me a racist. Black Lives Matter? Those people are out of control.”
Ms. Gayne also said she was supporting Trump because:
“(He’s) taking America back to where we were in the ’60s, ’70s and ’80s.”
