Comedian Denis Leary made an appearance on The Late Late Show with James Corden. Leary had a stand-up special in the ’90s called No Cure For Cancer. He sang a very catchy song called “The Asshole Song.” Leary and Corden dressed like the Clintons and sang a new version of this song together on the show.
The lyrics from the original talked about a regular American guy who pisses people off because he’s bored. The original would probably work for Trump, but Leary gave it a political twist. He compared the Clintons’ shortcomings to Trumps erratic, divisive behavior.
One particularly good lyric said this about Clinton:
“And sometimes I vote in favor of war / Or ‘Don’t Ask Don’t Tell’ / A bad choice, yeah yeah! / But no matter how bad, how bad we can be / We’ve never said Mexicans are rapists on TV / Trump’s an asshole!”
The bridge said:
“He won’t show his taxes / He won’t even try / He’s kicking out babies when they start to cry / While wearing a red, white and blue Chinese tie! / Trump’s an asshole!”
Here is the original song from 1993. This is the version that he recorded as a music video. I heard it on the No Cure For Cancer tape as a kid. (Yes, I did say tape. It was this device called a VCR.) Language warning!
There are many lyrics from the original which could apply to Trump. Don’t these words sound like Trump if he wasn’t rich?
“I’m just a regular Joe with a regular job / I’m your average white suburbanite slob / I like football and porno and books about war”
“I’ve got an average house with a nice hardwood floor / My wife and my job, my kids and my car /My feet on my table and a Cuban cigar”
Hope this gives you a giggle! Please don’t let the orange-hued asshole get into the White House.
