Releasing Trump Tax Returns Would Be Mistake, Says Eric Trump (VIDEO-TWEETS)

Eric Trump is firmly opposed to his father, Republican presidential nominee Donald Trump, releasing his tax returns. In spite of challenges from the likes of Warren Buffet, and even calls from members of his own party to do so, Trump believes the move would be a mistake.

During a Wednesday interview with CNBC, he laid his thoughts on the table:

“There is no tax attorney in the world who will tell you to release your tax returns while you’re under a standard routine audit. It would never happen. I mean anybody who thinks that is in la la land.”

He shared a firm belief that the interest in Donald Trump’s tax returns is a move to manufacture outrage:

“But I also hear these conspiracy theories all the time. You don’t learn all that much from a tax return in all of fairness, right?”

He expressed dismay that people have tried to insinuate that the tax returns are being withheld to disguise a connection to organized crime. He also argued that in the end, the returns are a not what the public should focus on:

“You learn a lot more when you look at a person’s assets. You know how many hotels we have around the world.  You know how many golf courses we have around the world. You know every single building that we have.”

Trump Tax Returns Are Beyond Comprehension

Eric closed the interview with a nice parting shot for detractors. He subtly implied that the Trump tax returns were just too complex for meager minds to comprehend:

“By the way, his tax return, you ever see the Twitter picture that he posted? It’s five feet tall. You would have a bunch of people who know nothing about taxes trying to look through and trying to come up with assumptions on things that they know nothing about.”

Interestingly, there was no mention of what individuals who do know something about taxes would think about the returns. As the Wall Street Journal noted in their recent report on the matter:

“Tax returns don’t reveal someone’s net worth, but they would show what Mr. Trump claimed as income, how his businesses are organized, how much he donated to charity and how aggressively he attempted to minimize his tax burden.”
