The race for the presidency is in full swing. As the race tightens and the nominees, Democrat Hillary Clinton and Republican Donald Trump, prepare for the first debate, questions mount about both candidates perceived unwillingness to engage with the media.
Problems With The Press
Clinton has had to endure criticism about being “elusive.” Multiple outlets have accused her of deliberately trying to avoid questions in an attempt to coast to victory. Meanwhile, pressure grows for her to hold an official press conference. Her rival has taken every opportunity he can to try and spin her dearth of public appearances as a lack of “stamina.”
Hillary Clinton didn't go to Louisiana, and now she didn't go to Mexico. She doesn't have the drive or stamina to MAKE AMERICA GREAT AGAIN!

But what of Donald Trump? Though he has been keeping himself in the spotlight, he routinely attempts to dictate the terms. His recent August interview with Anderson Cooper didn’t go so well, in the eyes of many. He’s regularly expressed disdain for the outlets that report on him in any critical manner:
Great visit to Detroit church, fantastic reception, and all @CNN talks about is a small protest outside. Inside a large and wonderful crowd!

Both candidates are having an issue with a perception, so what do they intend to do about it?
Trump And Clinton Unveiling New Media Strategy?
On the surface, it appears that Clinton is taking a more proactive approach. On Monday, she unveiled a new campaign plane with plenty of room for reporters, even taking some questions. As reported in the Wall Street Journal, Clinton claimed she was “so happy” to have the press along for the ride on its inaugural flight.
Trump, on the other hand, hasn’t even made this token gesture. According to Bloomberg, the Republican nominee has entertained the idea of “occasionally” having media in tow, though made sure to note that:
“It doesn’t have to be all the time.”
Score one for Hillary, right? Perhaps. It would seem she has the edge here, but she’s still unable to catch a break. Her detractors were quick to take to Twitter to express their cynicism. Even former Arkansas governor Mike Huckabee got a shot in:
Press allowed on Hillary's new plane, but are bound, gagged, and riding in cargo compartment unless they contribute to Clinton Foundation.
