Pamela Anderson along with Rabbi Shmuley Boteach, have penned an essay warning about the dangers of porn. In the piece, they argue that real intimacy is being lost in place of sexting and porn. The Wall Street Journal article asks men to stop looking at porn.

Pamela appeared in a sex tape with her ex-husband Tommy Lee, a tape that was stolen and made public. She believes that both intimacy and respect are needed for a healthy sexual relationship and that these elements are “destroyed” by pornography addiction. The essay also uses Anthony Weiner’s marriage break down as an example of how addictive porn and sexting can be. Pamela tweeted part of the article here:

According to Pamela’s press release, Schmuley, a relationship expert and Anderson have come together to agree that porn has:

“corrosive effects on a man’s soul and on his ability to function as husband and, by extension, as father.”

The article also compares porn addiction with drug addiction, she writes:

“Whereas drug dependency data are mostly stable, the incidence of porn addiction will only spiral as the children now being raised in an environment of wall-to-wall, digitized sexual images become adults inured to intimacy and in need of even greater graphic stimulation. They are the crack babies of porn.”

The reaction

Obviously the reaction to Pamela’s essay has been mixed. Some members of the porn industry have responded including Jessica Drake who tweeted:

Pamela is labelled a hypocrite by other Twitter users for condemning porn after being a prolific Playboy model herself. Many people on social media seem personally offended by Anderson referring to porn as something for ‘losers’.

It is a contentious issue that has been raised by Anderson. The digital age we now live in, has indeed posed many new moral dilemmas for the world to face. The article mentions statistics and the dangers of children seeing sexually explicit material from the age of 8.

However, those who are defending porn, such as Maria Riot argue that porn is merely a fictitious medium, that can have a place in healthy sexuality. Riot blames society for addiction, rather than the material itself:

“Porn is for fun, for pleasure, for entertainment. If people use porn for educating themselves or they become addicts to it, it is not because of porn, it is because of problems that society has, like poor sex education, for example.”

A year ago while appearing on Watch What Happens Live, Pamela Anderson discussed her own sex tape, saying she had never seen it and never made any money from the tape.
