The National Association of Manufacturers (NAM), a powerful D.C. lobbying group that often aligns with the Republicans, is predicting a Clinton win in November. Not only that, but they’re preparing for the Democrats to take the Senate.
“Preparing For All Scenarios” But Seeing A Clinton Win
As of this writing, the New York Times gives Hillary Clinton an 82 percent chance of winning the presidency. This really isn’t all that surprising, and is actually down from her high close to 90 percent earlier this month. That percentage is not the percent by which she’ll win, of course, but rather her chances based on electoral college outcomes.
It shouldn’t be all that surprising, then, that lobbying groups in D.C. are preparing for this eventuality.
As reported by The Hill:
“The most likely outcome in November, lobbyists believe, is Clinton winning the White House, Democrats winning the Senate and Republicans losing seats in the House.
But lobbyists are planning for every scenario, including a Trump presidency.”
It is, of course, the job of lobbyists to prepare for all possible outcomes. Their sights, however, are set on a Madame President in the White House as of January 20, 2017.
Democrats Will Likely Take The Senate And Gain Seats In House
Lobbying firms are also looking at the likely outcome of a Democratic Senate and a Republican House, though they expect Republicans to lose ground in the House.
A conference call was held after the Democratic National Convention, in which NAM spoke about their election forecasts. NAM Official Daniel Monroe led the call, in which he made the case that:
“The group is engaging with ‘all candidates’ on policy priorities and ‘is preparing for all possibilities post-November 8.'”
Another lobbyist made a similar case. According to The Hill:
“‘As a lobbying firm, if you’re not looking six to 10 months down the road at all times, you’re not serving your clients right,’ said Bruce Mehlman of Mehlman Castagnetti Rosen & Thomas.
‘In 2017, neither party will have the White House, 60 votes in the Senate and a House majority,’ he said. ‘It’s going to be Bipartisanville, USA, no matter how you slice it.'”
Considering the abysmal record the current Congress has on working across the aisle, we may be in for four more years of deadlock. Unfortunately, gerrymandering has made a Democratic takeover of the House nearly impossible. Get out there and VOTE, folks.
