By now, most of you know that Melania Trump promised to lead a crusade against bullying if she becomes First Lady. Most of you also know that claim went over like a lead balloon. After all, her husband has spent the better part of a year trying to bully his way into the White House–and has had no qualms about bullying anyone who dares stand up to him.

Judging by the reaction from the Internet, the reality-based world saw right through Melania. But the best reaction of all had to come from Lady Gaga. Something in Melania’s speech set her off.

There’s a reason Lady Gaga was outraged. Unlike Melania, she really does care about stopping bullying. Back in 2012, she launched the Born This Way Foundation, which is dedicated to building a community that “protects and nurtures others in the face of bullying and abandonment.” Recently, she teamed up with Intel, Vox, and Recode to fight cyberbullying. That includes behavior like Donald Trump’s ugly fat-shaming campaign against Alicia Machado on Twitter.

Incredibly, one of Lady Gaga’s more conservative fans thought this was a bridge too far.

So calling out someone for posing as an anti-bullying activist when she’s married to a bully amounts to bullying? Oh, that’s right–we’re talking about people who think Republicans who walked out on Trump for his degrading comments about women were being “traitors.” So in that same world, we have no right to call out Melania for being a Jane-come-lately to the anti-bullying cause. Go figure.

As we all know by now, setting off Lady Gaga is a dangerous thing. It inspired her to make a last-minute push on social media to get out the vote for Hillary Clinton. She has been one of Hillary’s loudest and proudest surrogates in the entertainment world, but she’s been in rare form since Sunday.

I don’t think I could have said it better.
