The popular vote numbers continue to grow with numerous ballots yet to be counted. Many of them are absentee votes and many are for Hillary Clinton.

David Wasserman, an editor at Cook Political Report has this to say:

We probably have about 7 million votes left to count. A majority of them are on the coasts, in New York, California, and Washington. She should be able to win those votes, probably 2-1.”

The Electoral College officially casts its ballots on December 19. At that time, Wasserman estimates that Clinton could be ahead by as much as 2 percentage points in the popular vote. He is also tracking voter turnout.

As an example of what’s left to count, California alone has more than 4 million votes pending, while Washington is waiting on another 700,000. This is massive.

So massive that a number of organizations have created petitions to sign. At Change.org their petition wants the Electoral College to vote for the Democratic candidate instead of the current tangerine-tinged president elect.

The petition states:

On Dec. 19, the electors of the Electoral College will cast their ballots. If they all vote the way their states voted, Donald Trump will win. However, they can vote for Hillary Clinton if they choose. Even in states where that is not allowed, their vote would still be counted, they would simply pay a small fine, which we can be sure Clinton supporters will be glad to pay!”

Yes. It’s true. I’ve already signed the petition and I hope you do too.

As Democrats and Liberal thinkers, it’s important to understand that this is not over. Votes are still being counted.

The media relays information to us, but they do not call elections. Only government bodies can do that, and they’re still counting.

Many Americans have called for abolishing the Electoral College ever since the Bush and Gore race in 2000. This may be the final electoral straw that breaks that camel’s back.

Just in the last decade, all 50 state legislatures have presented plans to make the popular vote the official path to choosing the president.

Ten have passed.

Although some may scoff at petitions, Moveon.org has made a habit of creating them and encouraging others to sign and even create their own.

So, if you’re wanting to abolish the Electoral College and have our country abide by the popular vote then here’s your chance to sign your name.
