5 Tips On Surviving Thanksgiving Post-Election

For some (many) folks, Thanksgiving always carries with it a great deal of stress when it comes to dealing with relatives.

Unfortunately, we now have to deal with Thanksgiving so soon after the disappointing election results. We will have to deal with our family members who disagree with us. I would like to offer you some tips to deal with this (besides drinking copious amounts of liquor).

1. Don’t Talk About It

This is the obvious solution. Don’t bring it up. However, your relatives may get a little tipsy and talk about it. In that case, you can try changing the subject.

2. Change The Subject

If your relatives just won’t stop bringing up uncomfortable topics. Try and change the subject. Pivot away from the election. Some people just have to push their family members’ buttons during family gatherings.

3. Refrain from your Trump insults.

If you just make fun of Trump with them, your family members won’t want to listen. If you want to talk about it, ask genuine questions about why they voted that way. Watch them try to come up with some policies out of Trump’s word salad ideas.

4. Join The Debate If You Can Keep Your Emotions Out Of It

If you can restrain yourself, join in on the debating. Just try to keep your cool, and keep your feelings to a minimum. You may end up angry anyway, but you can attempt to get your relatives to listen to you.

5. Don’t Go To Thanksgiving

If you can’t stand your family right now, just don’t go. They may think you’re an asshole, but you can keep your sanity. Find some like-minded friends so you can have a fun, low-stress holiday.

No matter what you choose to do, you will survive.
