How To Talk About Your Family About Their Obamacare Coverage On Thanksgiving

When we think of Thanksgiving, we think of fantastic food, warm homes, holiday music, and togetherness with our families. This year won’t be any different in those aspects, but the current state of government and the looming change in leadership may bring some rather interesting debate to the turkey table this year.

One of the hottest topics this year is Obamacare, and while some are clawing at the idea of a repeal, many are fearful of how the discontinuation of the program will affect their ability to get proper care.

So while you chow down on turkey and mashed potatoes take a moment and educate your family on this subject and calm some of the fears they may be fighting this holiday season. Planned Parenthood has stepped up to the plate to provide some helpful information on how to talk to your family about their Obamacare coverage this Thanksgiving.

Q.What happens if the Affordable Care Act (ACA, aka Obamacare) is repealed?

  • ACA Is Still In Effect– Until a law is passed to dismantle the plan, the ACA will remain in effect.
  • Open Enrollment Is Now– Open enrollment for the ACA is currently in action, and you can sign up through January 31st. For many people, healthcare through the ACA can be found for as little as $75 a month, and some may even be able to find lower cost or free options through Medicaid.
  • Planned Parenthood Wants You To Know:

“You can come to Planned Parenthood for the expert, quality care you need when you need it — with or without insurance. For 100 years, Planned Parenthood has been providing expert reproductive and sexual health care. That’s not changing.”

Q.Can I still get an IUD or other forms of birth control for no copay?

  • Yes!– The ACA is still the law, so IUDs and many other types of birth control are available with no copay.
  • Planned Parenthood Wants You To Know:

“Other preventative care — like well-woman exams, STI testing, and cancer screenings — are also covered with no copay. If you have questions about your birth control option, you can go to PlannedParenthood.org to schedule an appointment with a Planned Parenthood provider.”

Q.How can I protect my current health care options?

  • Everything Is The Same-Your current health care options are exactly the same as they were before. However, once the inauguration passes it will be time to stand up and fight for your fundamental human right to affordable and reliable health care and coverage.
  • Planned Parenthood Wants You To Know:

“Planned Parenthood health centers will be there for you with expert, confidential, and non-judgmental care. And as we have done year after year, we will be fighting with all our hearts to block harmful policies. It’s up to everyone who cares about reproductive rights to join the fight.”

Take the time to relieve some of that stress for your relatives but also remember that our rights are in danger with this change in regime and now is the time to start making your voice be heard. Stand up for your right to affordable health care coverage.
