WATCH: Women Marched Around The World – Change Is Coming, Like It Or Not

It’s a simple fact that then President-elect Donald Trump’s inauguration was nowhere near the same size President Barack Obama’s. It seems there is something of an “enthusiasm gap” for the 45th president. Maybe people were not eager to usher in a Cheeto-dusted alleged rapist into the highest office. Or maybe it was because the people were elsewhere.

Many women have objected Donald Trump’s downright hostile views when it comes to their bodily autonomy, whether it’s choosing to have an abortion or not, or being groped simply because he’s a star, and they did something about it.

In Washington, D.C., New York, Los Angeles, Chicago and American cities across the country, Women’s Marches took place to address the troubling ascent of someone who appears not to care about women whatsoever, except as pawns and objects.

In Washington D.C., the Metro ridership approached half a million, when on a regular day, they service about 85,000 trips in even their busiest hour.

In Rochester, New York, the city I live in, we heard speeches from public officials, a Muslim-American filmmaker, and other diverse men and women. People of all types came together to say “No!” to Donald Trump’s agenda of racism, bigotry, and blind ignorance.

It’s worth noting that Rochester is the grave site for both Susan B. Anthony and Frederick Douglass, known for their tireless efforts for women and Black people, respectively.

Every year, people line up to place their “I voted” stickers on Anthony’s grave.

But the record-breaking crowds in Washington were not alone. Besides for involvement from other American cities, other countries got in on the action, with solidarity against Trump in London, the Philippines, France, Melbourne, Hong Kong, Tokyo, Berlin, and others.

At worst, these attendance numbers could be a crushing blow to a president who only cares about numbers, rallies, and ratings. At best, they could be a warning to Donald Trump that the will of the American people is not on his side.

We do want to see his tax returns. We do want him to do something about climate change. We do want him to keep his tiny fingers off reproductive rights.

And if he fails, neither the American people nor the world will accept it.
