The Sports World Wonders How This Ban Will Affect Athletes

President Trump’s executive actions jeopardize not only the relationship that the United States has with Iran – one of the countries banned from entering the United States – but also Los Angeles’ ability to host the 2024 Summer Olympic games. Officials have struggled with the implications of the executive order, while questioning how athletes from these targeted nations will be able to compete.

One member of the International Olympic Committee criticized the decision. International Olympic Committee delegate Richard Peterkin has said that the executive order was “very, very disappointing.”

Peterkin remarked that many international athletes trained in the United States, with the country being a haven for those who want to practice outside of their respective countries. As a form of solidarity, Peterkin mentions that athletes from his country of St. Lucia aren’t on the banned list; but if it was, there was a chance of stifled dreams for amateur athletes.

On Saturday, a federal judge issued a stay, and partly blocked the executive order. The effects may be long-lasting. In retaliation, Iran will ban American citizens from entering the country.

President Trump has possibly extinguished the relationship that we have with Iran. What do you think will happen next?
