Why is Trump suddenly tweeting about Mark Cuban?
Trump has tweeted about Cuban nearly 50 times over the years, but this was the first tweet about him since Trump was sworn in as president.
At first, many assumed that the tweet was a reaction to some statements Cuban made on Friday to fellow CEOs. He said “do what you think is right” and “be an American citizen first” when dealing with Trump.
I know Mark Cuban well. He backed me big-time but I wasn't interested in taking all of his calls. He's not smart enough to run for president!

Mark Cuban’s Response
At first, Cuban retweeted Trump and simply said “Lol.”

Later, Cuban tweeted, “how soon they forget…” along with an image of a letter he wrote to Trump in 2016:

When asked by a Twitter follower why the POTUS was “dissing him” out of nowhere, Cuban tweeted:

A few hours later, Trump’s motive for writing the tweet became more apparent to Cuban. He told The Huffington Post:
“Someone close to him told me it was a nypost [sic] article saying I was a 2020 threat. That’s all I know.”
Cuban was identified by the White House as one of four Democrats who could potentially oppose Trump in 2020. The other three are Sen. Sherrod Brown (D-Ohio), Sen. Chris Murphy (D-Conn.), and Colorado Gov. John Hickenlooper (D).
Trump is said to be “obsessed” with re-election and may have become upset by the New York Post article.
Fact Check Time!
While Trump may know Cuban well, the rest of the statements in the tweet are completely false.
- Cuban did not back Trump “big-time.” It is well-known that Cuban officially and publicly endorsed Hillary Clinton during the 2016 elections.
- In order to be elected president, one must be a natural born citizen, a current resident of the United States, and be 35 years of age. There is no intelligence requirement in the constitution. Therefore, Cuban is, in fact, “smart enough to run for president.”
Insulting tweets such as this are not befitting the President of the United States of America.
