House Intel Member: Trump Administration Officials Will ‘End Up In Jail’ When Russia Probe Concludes

As the investigation into the Trump administration’s contacts with Russia during and after the election continue, a member of the House Permanent Select Committee on Intelligence predicted Tuesday that based on what he had seen so far, officials in the White House would wind up in jail.

Congressman Joaquin Castro (D-TX) appeared on CNN’s The Situation Room and was asked by host Wolf Blitzer if he’s seen any concrete evidence that members of the Trump campaign and Russia worked together to influence the 2016 election. Castro replied:

“I guess I would say this: My impression is, I wouldn’t be surprised after all of this is said and done, that some people end up in jail.”

Blitzer, clearly surprised by what Castro had just said, followed up by asking how high up in the administration the scandal might go. Castro told him:

“That’s yet to be determined.”

The host then queried if Castro was saying that “people, plural” would be indicted and convicted at the conclusion of the investigation. Again, Castro replied:

“That’s my impression, yes.”

Seeking to get further clarification, Blitzer asked:

“But at this point, you’re confident that at least some Trump associates will wind up in jail?”

Castro:

“If I were betting, I would say yes. Again, if somebody asked me my impression—my impression is that people will probably be charged and I think people will probably go to jail.”

It’s hard to argue with Congressman Castro. He has access to information we haven’t seen, and each day brings new revelations about contacts between the Trump team and Russian agents. While the administration may be trying to deflect and distort with their unproven claims of improper surveillance–i.e. Trump’s ridiculous wiretapping claims–the bottom line is that 17 American intelligence agencies have already said Russia actively worked to turn the election in favor of Trump. All that remains to be determined is who played a role and how long their prison sentences should be.
