Majority Of Americans Still Feel The Bern (VIDEO)

According to new polling data, Vermont senator Bernie Sanders (I) is the country’s most popular politician.

The April Harvard-Harris poll found that nearly 60 percent of Americans view Sanders favorably. Among Democrats, unsurprisingly, he has a much higher favorability rating of about 80 percent. Even among Republicans, though, Sanders remains popular; almost two-thirds of Republicans gave him their approval.

His bipartisan appeal has been on full display this year. As the chairman of the Democrats’ outreach effort, he’s been touring “Trump country” – states like Kentucky, West Virginia, and Wisconsin – and drumming up support for progressive policies.

The Harvard-Harris poll confirms the data of a similar survey conducted last month by Fox News that also found Sanders has the highest favorability rating of any active politician in America.

The Brooklyn-born senator’s star has been rising steadily since his near-upset last year over former Secretary of State Hillary Clinton in the Democratic primary. Sanders was widely considered the underdog in that contest, but won 22 states, coming within striking distance of the Democratic presidential nomination. He was already the most popular legislator by the end of last year, and has only grown more popular since.

Another darling of the progressive Left, Senator Elizabeth Warren (D-Mass.), also scored high favorability marks. Some 38 percent of Americans view the Massachusetts senator favorably, and only 32 percent viewed her unfavorably.

The most disliked political figures, on the other hand, were former Secretary of State Hillary Clinton, and presidential advisor Stephen Bannon. Clinton edged out President Donald Trump by just two percentage points to earn the highest unfavorability rating – 53 percent. Bannon, who has seen his influence within the White House wane recently, has the lowest approval rating at 16 percent.

Both major parties generally scored poorly in the polling data. Over 60 percent of Americans disapprove of the way the Republican Party is handling its job, and 58 percent of those polled said they disapprove of how the Democratic Party is handling its job.
