We have all seen President Donald Trump appear in strange cameos in a variety of films and television shows over the years. From Home Alone 2 to Scent of a woman, he has popped up on the screen in very odd circumstances. Well Hollywood actor Matt Damon has revealed a little something about why this is and it turns out these appearances were not because the directors were after his unique acting skills.
Damon recently admitted why he appears so often:
“The deal was that if you wanted to shoot in one of his buildings, you had to write him in a part. Martin Brest had to write something in Scent of a Woman — and the whole crew was in on it. You have to waste an hour of your day with a bullshit shot: Donald Trump walks in and Al Pacino’s like, ‘Hello, Mr. Trump! — you had to call him by name — and then he exits.”
Further to the ‘shooting location in exchange for a role for Trump’ arrangement, Damon added:
“You waste a little time so that you can get the permit, and then you can cut the scene out. But I guess in Home Alone 2 they left it in,”
It is well known that Trump appeared in a scene of Oliver Stone’s 1980s hit Wall Street and that scene ended up on the cutting room floor.
If the Trump campaign and presidency has shown us anything, it is that Trump really enjoys being center stage. Damon’s revelation is not a surprise at all. It is typical that Trump would want to cut a deal that essentially promotes himself. Damon has not personally met Trump, but he has also been vocal about how he feeks about his actions as president. Damon said:
“I’m obviously very concerned with the state of things and with the damage that’s being done to our institutions; it’s just very pernicious what he’s doing.”
Aren’t we all?
