It’s no secret that the alleged 45th President of the United States Donald Trump is a bully. A racist who wields his position like a weapon of mass destruction instead of using tact and diplomacy. He has been clear in his support of white supremacy, sexism, xenophobia, and his disdain for anything that isn’t rich, white, and male.

Over the weekend, so-called President Donald Trump totally went off the deep end again. This time calling for the firing of NFL players who have the audacity to protest police brutality and the marginalization of Black people. His racist rant began at a campaign rally for Senator Luther Strange and then he continued via Twitter.

Early Sunday morning, while the rest of the world was sleeping, Trump doubled down on his bullying tactics and threats to the Black athletes:

But a funny thing happened on the way to the football field Sunday. Much to the surprise and delight of sane football fans across the country, players from almost every team continued the protest and provided an epic clap back to the racist bully. Over 200 players, of all races, standing with arms locked, kneeling, or not even coming on the field during the singing of the National Anthem as a sign of protest and solidarity.

This show of solidarity of football players, including Trump’s “good friend” New England Patriot’s quarterback Tom Brady and two of his major supporters, led to the KKKommander in Chief to backpedal a bit and tell to the world what he felt was acceptable when it comes to protesting on the field.

Two things are abundantly clear from this tweet. One: he clearly missed the point. Which really isn’t a shocker considering he proves his absolute incompetence on a daily basis. Two: He changed his tune because of the color of the people who participated. If white players like Tom Brady, Matt Ryan, Travis Kelce had not joined the protest, he probably would have been calling for the jobs of every Black player who participated instead of reeling his foolishness in a bit and trying to talk about acceptability.

However, even if that is not the reason for his backpedaling, there’s still a big problem here. Who is he to say what is an acceptable form of protest?

He’s made it clear that he has no understanding of the Constitution, Bill of Rights, or any other document with higher readability than a Level 1 book, but come on. Acceptable?

Regardless of your position, elected or otherwise, the ACLU states that the right to “join with fellow citizens in protest or peaceful assembly” is in the First Amendment, making what Colin Kaepernick and all the other players and athletes who choose to kneel, stand, lock arms, or raise fists a right of them all as citizens of the United States of America.

Any “patriot” that opposes that is not likely a true patriot. No, more than likely they are a racist who uses patriotism as a cover for their hate, like so-called President Donald Trump does so often.

What’s even more problematic is that Trump took no issue with the way that neo-Nazis, white nationalists, and members of the KKK held a violent rally in Charlottesville, VA in August 2017. No call to fire them. No calling them SOB’s. Nope, they were complimented and proclaimed as “very fine people.”

That shows us where his alliance lies. And it is clear that his desire is for Black people, these athletes, in particular, is to be silent and stay in their place. However, it is most gratifying to know that that won’t be happening. I have a feeling that the pushback has only just begun.
