Update: Eviction Moratorium Extended Through October

On Tuesday, we published a story announcing the eviction moratorium in place since September had been allowed to lapse.

Shortly after publishing that report, the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) announced it will extend the federal eviction moratorium through October 3.

President and CEO of the National Low Income Housing Coalition (NLIHC), Diane Yentel, stated the extension should allow states time to distribute the congressionally allocated $46 billion in federal emergency rental relief funds, as the White House is urging them to do.

Yentel added:

“This is a tremendous relief for millions of people who were on the cusp of losing their homes and, with them, their ability to stay safe during the pandemic.”
