McKinney Cop Eric Casebolt Resigns Due To Police Abuse Scandal

Now former McKinney police officer Cpl. Eric Casebolt has resigned from the McKinney police force.

Casebolt was the main officer involved in what many are calling one of the most offensive police officer abuse videos we’ve seen in sometime.

You can see the original story and video here.

Here is what his police chief had to say about the incident:

“The actions of Eric Casebolt are indefensible,” police Chief Greg Conley told reporters at a news conference late Tuesday afternoon, saying the officer was “out of control during the incident.”

“I had 12 officers on the scene, and 11 of them performed according to their training,” Conley added.

Casebolt’s attorney, Jane Bishkin, confirmed his resignation tonight. She told WFAA that the decision was made after meeting with the department’s internal affairs unit to review the possible charges her client could face.

Casebolt is a 10-year veteran of the McKinney police department. He was placed on administrative leave on Sunday, after the 7-minute long video hit YouTube and other social media. The video has been viewed almost 9.5 million times.

The video shows Casebolt aggressively responding to a disturbance call. In the video he uses profane language at a group of black teenagers, forcing them to sit on the ground, and at one point he attacks a black teenage girl because she talked back to him.

When some young men tried to stop him, he drew his pistol and chased them off, instructing other officers to go in pursuit of the boys.

Many of the white adults in the neighborhood thought Casebolt was justified in what he did, one even saying that he deserved a “medal” for what he did. The black and white divide in this story isn’t as broad as was the case with other police abuse stories involving young minorities.

In this situation some young white kids who witnessed the incident first hand decided to take a stand against racism and stand with the black community. It’s sobering to see young children both black and white standing together to decry injustice.

Hopefully these kids can use this horrible experience to build lasting bonds and true harmony between our cultures.
