Chris Christie: Fat, Happy, and Ready to Serve

Chris Christie’s campaign has released his medical records – and he is healthy…sort of.?He has?hypertension, something he has suffered from for two years, as well as the asthma he has lived with for the last thirty. But, all in all, his doctors say he is in “normal health” and fit to serve as Governor of New Jersey for another four years.

Christie, who underwent lap band surgery in February 2013, had promised to release his medical records at a debate earlier this month after his opponent, Democratic State Sen. Barbara Buono, made it a focus of the debate by releasing her own records. In response to a question that asked he would also release his records, Christie said:

Listen, I’m happy to make medical reports public and, fact is, that people see whether you’re fit for the job by whether you can do the job or not. And people have watched me over the last four years do the job under some really significantly difficult circumstances and come to work every day and work as hard as I can for the people of this state.

Christie, who was hospitalized while serving as governor, for an asthma attack, has consistently deflected questions about his weight, pointing out his years on the job as proof that he is capable of serving as governor. And now we know, he is quite healthy, or at least as healthy as is normal for someone of his age, weight, and medical history.

Buono, who?has been lagging in the polls, down as much as 33% to Christie in the month of October, is trying any tactic she can to bring the focus on her ability to be a better governor than Chris Christie. According to the numbers, none of it?is working. The people of New Jersey seem to like their governor – a lot, and have rebuffed any concern for his weight and health.

And now we know that their lack of concern is well-founded. Chris Christie is fat and happy.
