Steve Stockman, the Tea Party Congressman from Texas’ 36th District, is never short on hurling criticisms at Barack Obama or other elected officials in Washington DC. Even his own Republican Senator, John Cornyn, is blasted for being “too liberal.”?Stockman is challenging Cornyn for his US Senate seat, but so far he has gained little traction, polling just 6 percent to Cornyn’s 50 percent. Stockman’s campaign has become a train wreck, and now his latest gimmick is giving out “Obama barf bags” to anyone who contributes ten dollars to his campaign. Give one hundred dollars and you can get ten Obama barf bags. Donate a thousand dollars and you can have one hundred Obama barf bags sent to you. The barf bags are decorated with a “NO 2 Obama” image, along with the words “Socialism makes me sick!”
What makes Stockman’s Obama barf bags all the more amusing is that while he is accusing Obama of making people sick, working for Stockman might literally make a person sick.
In November, a Stockman campaign office was shut down for multiple safety violations, including fourteen fire code violations. The office was closed down and condemned as unfit for human habitation after health inspectors found it to be dirty and unsafe. Campaign workers were sleeping there even though it was deemed unfit for habitation.
While Steve Stockman likes to say he is going to clean up the mess in Washington, he is unable to even clean up his own mess in Texas. In addition, the Obama barf bags he uses as a campaign gimmick may seem amusing to him, but the conditions his campaign workers have to endure might literally make them throw up. It is not surprising that Steve Stockman is polling just six percent in his primary to unseat John Cornyn. His downward spiral is utterly predictable. The only surprise is that Stockman enjoys any support at all. He needs to clean up the remnants of his failing Senate campaign in Texas, and more importantly, it is long past time that he clean out his office in DC as well.
